Kellett School sets its sights to the top of the sporting arena

Updated: Aug 24, 2021

New appointments aim to position Kellett as one of the region’s top sporting schools

Kellett School has appointed international rugby player Jamie Hood and former South England netball player Suzanne Gardner to its coaching staff.

The two sporting additions bring with them years of experience in coaching, playing and teaching, as Kellett seeks to cement itself as one of the top sporting schools in the region.

Since moving to Hong Kong over 10 years ago, Hood has assumed a variety of roles, from teaching physical education and science, to director of Youth Rugby at the HK Football Club, interspersed with playing professional rugby in the Japanese Top League.

The former Hong Kong Sevens caption will initially work on a part-time basis, allowing him to fulfil his sporting commitments with Hong Kong rugby team.

Gardner brings more than 13 years of teaching, coaching and playing experience with her to Kellet.

An experienced head of netball in UK schools and internationally as well, she created and implemented netball development programmes in schools such as Portsmouth Grammar School and Guildford High School.

Kevin Paradise, Kellett’s director of sport, said he was excited with the two appointments. “We have a strong commitment to turn Kellett into a high-performing, competitive, sporting school,” he said.

“The playing background and coaching skills that both Jamie and Suzanne bring to the school will undoubtedly help us build a high-calibre team to deliver on this exciting journey.”

Kellett was recently awarded ‘British International Independent School of the Year 2020’ and is now looking to build upon its success as one of the top sporting schools in Asia.
